Application of a Constant Indicator Dilution Method to the Measurement of Local Venous Flow.

چکیده
• Many investigations of the cardiovascular system require estimations of regional or single vessel blood flow. Although direct methods ' have been devised for this purpose, most have a limited application in man because they involve exposure of the appropriate blood vessel. When multiple and frequent flow estimations over a long period are desired in experimental animals, repeated exposures of the same vessel or region may present difficulties. Hence, a technique that would eliminate this procedure would be of value. Although indicator dilution methods have been used to estimate regional or single vessel blood flow in man and experimental animals, certain problems in their application have emerged. Andres et al. measured human brachial artery flow, Peterson et al. left ventricular output, and Grace et al. thoracic aortic flow by injecting Evans blue dye at a constant rate into the artery and recording a dilution curve from an accompanying vein or

متن کاملThe measurement of segmental venous flow by an indicator dilution method.
Several methods have been evolved for the measurement of venous flow in animals, but most have a limited application in man as they involve exposure of the appropriate blood vessel. These methods include the Ludwig type stromuhr (Tigerstedt, 1892), the thermostrontuhr (Rein, 1928; Schmidt and Walker, 1935; Shipley et al., 1942), the bubble flow meter (Soskin et al., 1934; Brunner, 1948), the di...
متن کاملUse of a local indicator dilution technique for the measurement of oscillatory flow.
An indicator dilution method for measuring oscillatory flow in a vessel is analyzed in terms of a mixing chamber with a constant volume. For the correct measurement of mean flow, the time constant of detection of the indicator Should be very much shorter than the shortest time constant of the mixing volume. The performance of such a system was examined with a thermal indicator. Although the app...

Validation of Jugular Venous Flow as an Index of Total Cerebral Blood Flow • Values of total cerebral blood flow in man measured by the indicator dilution method are compared with values of total internal jugular venous flow measured by the thermal dilution method. Except in the case of an extremely labile cerebral hemodynamic state, the results agree within the accuracy of the two methods, sug...

Bilateral Jugular Venous Blood Flow by Thermal Dilution • Measurements of internal jugular venous flow were made in 12 patients with severe cerebral vascular disease. Flow rates were determined by the thermal dilution method, using room temperature physiological (heparinized) saline as an indicator infused at a constant rate. The major sources of error (indicator mixing) were studied under high...
